SCOPE Thought Piece, Question #7: Would you recommend a centralized prevention office or function for schools and college campuses? If so, what would an ideal centralized prevention function look like in your view?

Jane Stapleton, M.A.

No, I wouldn’t suggest this, but I would encourage prevention practitioners (across issues) to work together and to collaborate with researchers/evaluators to help ensure that they are implementing effective prevention strategies. I love the idea of colleges and universities working on a comprehensive prevention strategy to address multiple issues.  I do think it is important to have prevention practitioners also very connected to people who are providing direct services (i.e. crisis counselors, AOD counselors, etc.)
